Women’s Basketball Defeats Miami-Hamilton; Wethington Earns 700th Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team closed out the Cumberlands Classic with an 81-60 victory over Miami-Hamilton (Ohio) at the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

With the victory, John B. Wethington recorded his 700th career win as a head coach of the Blue Raider program. All of his wins have come at the helm of Lindsey Wilson Women's Basketball.

Four Blue Raiders were in double figures led by Amelia Hodges who scored 16 points on 5-of-8 shooting and was 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. Claire Fleming added 14 points on 5-of-6 from the field and made both of her attempts from beyond the arc. Isabel Garcia and Saniyah Shelton also scored double-digit points with 12 and 11, respectively.

The Blue Raiders opened the game, scoring the first nine points. Miami-Hamilton responded with a quick 6-0 run making it 9-6 with 6:14 to play in the first quarter. Lindsey Wilson closed out the first on a 7-0 run to lead 20-10. In the first quarter, the Blue Raiders shot 50 percent from the floor (9-of-18), limiting the Harriers to just 4-of-16.

Miami-Hamilton scored four of the first six points in the second quarter, trimming the Blue Raider lead to 22-14. The two teams then traded three-pointers before Lindsey Wilson scored eight of the next 11 points pushing the lead to 33-20 with 3:32 left in the half. The Blue Raiders went into halftime leading 37-22. Lindsey Wilson shot 39.5 percent from the field in the first half and held the Harriers to 23.3 percent.

Lindsey Wilson shot 80 percent (12-of-15) from the field in the third quarter connected on all three attempts from beyond the arc.  The Blue Raiders' first six points of the quarter came on threes from Fleming and Hodges. Following a Harriers' three to make it 45-29, Lindsey Wilson scored the next 10 points increasing its lead to 55-29 with under four minutes to play in the third. The Blue Raiders scored 11 of the final 15 points in the quarter to lead 66-35 heading into the final 10 minutes.

The Blue Raiders scored nine of the first 11 points in the fourth quarter. Miami-Hamilton then went on a 14-1 run over the next 3:27 to cut its deficit to 76-51 with 3:03 to play.  The Harriers closed the game on a 9-5 run as the Blue Raiders got the 81-60 victory.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Tuesday for the home opener against (RV) Pikeville at 6 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
