Women's Basketball Defeats Miami-Hamilton Improving To 5-0

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball defeated Miami-Hamilton (Ohio) 74-68 on Thursday in Biggers Sports Center. 

The Blue Raiders (5-0) were led by Taylor Guess with 25 points on 8-of-16 from the field while connecting on 7-of-8 from the charity stripe, Jarie Thomas was another Blue Raider in double figures with 12 points and 10 rebounds recording her first double-double of the season. Claire Fleming and Saniyah Shelton were the other Blue Raiders that scored in double figures with 17 and 11, respectively. 

Lindsey Wilson started the game on a 7-0 run forcing the Harriers to call a timeout 1:46 into the game. Miami-Hamilton proceeded to fight its way back, trimming its deficit to 14-13 with 2:46 left in the first. The Blue Raiders went on a 9-0 run that lasted 2:20 to end the first quarter extending the Lindsey Wilson lead 23-13.Guess led all scores in the first quarter with 11 of the Blue Raiders 23 points. 

The Harriers started the second quarter on a 7-3 run that brought them back within six points to cut into the Blue Raider lead. The Blue Raiders held the Harriers to 30.8 percent, shooting 4-13 from the field and going 1-4 from behind the arc. Lindsey Wilson went into halftime with a 36-29 lead. 

To start the third quarter the Blue Raiders and Harriers went back and forth trading buckets to keep the Lindsey Wilson lead in the single digits. The Blue Raiders built momentum going into the fourth with an and-1 finish by Thomas with 0:02 on the clock to put Lindsey Wilson up 51-43 entering the final 10 minutes of the ball game. 

Miami-Hamilton started the final quarter of the ball game on a 5-0 run that lasted 2:36 cutting the lead to 51-48. With 5:12 left on the clock, the Harriers turned over the basketball on an inbounding play underneath their own goal giving Lindsey Wilson the opportunity to capitalize and they did just that.Fleming hit Thomas for a wide-open layup to boost the Blue Raiders up nine. With 0:09 seconds left, Fleming knocked down two free throws putting Blue Raiders up 74-68 to ice the game.

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. CT to take on Berea College (Ky) in Columbia, Ky at Biggers Sports Center.
