COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson men's soccer punched their ticket to the final site of the NAIA National Tournament with a commanding 4-0 victory over Xavier (La.) on Saturday afternoon at Parnell Family Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (10-5-3) showcased a balanced attack, scoring twice in each half, while the defense recorded a textbook clean sheet. With the win, Lindsey Wilson moves on to Wichita, Kansas, for the final stage of the national tournament in which they will play Cumberlands (Ky.) in the Round of 16.
Jaland Larmond led the way with a brace, netting the opening goal in the 20th minute off an assist from Kenn Muendo. Larmond added his second in the 37th minute, taking advantage of a great pass from Felix Poschmann to double the Blue Raiders' lead before halftime.
Early in the second half, Dominic Ayella continued his stellar form by scoring in the 49th minute after a perfectly placed cross by Poschmann. Sebastian Tregarthen capped off the scoring in the 52nd minute, making it a hat trick of assists for Poschmann, securing the dominant victory for Lindsey Wilson.
Defensively, goalkeeper Francois Djiba had a calm game, supported by a disciplined backline that limited Xavier (14-5-1) to two shots in total and no shots on goal. The Blue Raiders outshot the Gold Rush 12-2, including a 9-0 edge in shots on target.
Xavier struggled to find their rhythm, with Eduardo dos Santos and Matheus Moura receiving yellow cards during the match.
With momentum on their side, the Blue Raiders aim to continue their strong play at the NAIA Final Site in Wichita. The date and time on the match against Cumberlands will be announced later on.
