COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson football team fell in four overtimes to Bethel (Tenn.) 33-31 Saturday at Parnell Family Stadium.
This marks the longest game in program history surpassing a double overtime game in 2010 against Kentucky Christian. The game headed to overtime tied at 14 after Bethel missed a 50-yard field goal at the end of regulation. The two teams traded scores on their first three possessions in overtime tying the game at 31. Lindsey Wilson had possession first in the fourth overtime. The Blue Raiders were unable to score the two-point play. Bethel scored on its possession for the 33-31 win.
Lindsey Wilson (5-3, 3-2 Mid-South Conference) tallied 383 yards of offense in the game.
Pryor Lamb completed 19 of his 35 passes for 270 yards and three touchdowns.
Davontaye Saunders led the Blue Raiders catching two passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns.
Logan Neufeld added four catches for 54 yards and a touchdown. Saunders also carried the 12 times for 63 yards while
David Gardner Jr. ran the ball 18 times for 43 yards and scored a touchdown in overtime. Defensively,
Lou Burchfield led the way with 15 tackles while
Cameron Rankins was also in double digits with 10.
Troy Churchill added 1.5 sacks while
Stacy Hopkins Jr. tallied a half sack.
The two teams traded punts to begin the game. Bethel punted on its second drive giving the ball to the Blue Raiders on the Lindsey Wilson 48. Lindsey Wilson struck first with an eight-play, 52-yard drive capped off by a Lamb touchdown pass to Neufeld on fourth down giving the Blue Raiders a 7-0 lead with 2:30 left in the first quarter.
Both offenses struggled to get anything going for most of the second quarter. The Wildcats put together a 10-play, 82-yard drive that took 4:28 off the clock to tie the game at seven with just over two minutes left in the first half. The two teams headed to the locker room tied at 7-7.
Bethel took over on its two-yard line following a Blue Raider punt in the third quarter. The Wildcats marched down the field with a 17-play, 98-yard drive that elapsed 9:16 off the clock to lead 14-7 early in the fourth quarter. Lindsey Wilson needed just two plays to respond as Lamb found Saunders who took it 74 yards to the house tying the game at 14 with 14:01 to play.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Wildcats missed a 47-yard field goal giving the Blue Raiders the ball at their own 30 with 1:55 to play. On the next possession, Lindsey Wilson punted after five plays pinning the Wildcats on the seven with 47 seconds left. The Wildcats moved the ball to the Lindsey in just seven plays to set up the field goal attempt.
The Blue Raiders return to action next Saturday hosting Georgetown (Ky.) in the regular season finale at 1 p.m. CT . The game is also Senior Day for Lindsey Wilson.
