Women’s Basketball Moves To 9-3 On The Season After Defeating Oakland City (Ind.) 81-66

COLUMBIA, Ky- Women's basketball laced up against the Oakland City (Ind.) Mighty Oaks, defeating them 81-66. 

Five Blue Raiders scored in double figures with Saniyah Shelton leading the way with 19 points and five rebounds, going three-for-three from behind the arc. Taylor Guess, Claire Fleming, Jarie Thomas, and Grace Brewer were the other Blue Raiders who scored in double digits with 13, 11, 10, and 10, respectively. 

Shelton opened up scoring for the Blue Raiders, connecting on a pull-up from the free throw line at 9:37 and finding Emily Cox the very next possession for a short corner jumper at 8:54 to give Lindsey Wilson a 4-2 lead. The first 10 minutes of action each team traded baskets giving Oakland City the 24-23 edge headed into the second quarter. 

Lindsey Wilson struck first in the second quarter at 9:29 on a made three by Shelton that was assisted by Fleming. The Blue Raiders went on a 12-4 run that lasted 4:02 extending their lead to 35-28 with 5:19 to play. Lindsey Wilson outscored Oakland City 24-6 in the second 10 minutes of play giving them the 47-30 edge headed into the locker room for halftime. 

Oakland City started the second half on a 6-0 run on made threes by Emilee Hope and Gabrielle Joyner that was put to a stop on a mid-range pull-up by Blue Raider Taylor Guess at 7:55 making the score 49-36. Mighty Oak Ellen Meeringa connected on a three followed by a Blue Raider layup from Shelton, giving Lindsey Wilson the 51-39 advantage with 6:49 on the clock. With 54.0 seconds remaining on the clock, Thomas hit a cutting Brewer for a layup, followed by a Brewer three pointer assisted by Guess extending the Blue Raider lead to 65-50 headed into the final quarter of play. 

The final 10 minutes of action consisted of trading baskets back and forth with both teams getting to the free-throw line and connecting at the charity stripe. With 3:09 remaining, Mighty Oak Rhylan Kalb converted at the free-throw line going two-for-two cutting the Lindsey Wilson lead to 11. At 2:41 Fleming had an answer for the Kalb free throws and converted on a lay up and-one, followed by a Guess jumper at 2:11 to extend the Blue Raider lead to 78-62. Lindsey Wilson went on to win the game 81-66 moving to 9-3 on the season. 

Lindsey Wilson will be back in action on Dec. 17 at 2pm CT in Lake Wales, Fla. to take on Warner University (Fla.).
