Women’s Basketball Improves to 10-3 On The Season

LAKE WALES, Fla.- Lindsey Wilson took to the hardwood Tuesday afternoon defeating the Royals of Warner University (Fla.) 64-52. 

Taylor Guess led all scores posting a 20-point outing along with eight rebounds. Claire Fleming, Janiya Davis, and Emily Cox were amongst the others who led the offensive charge adding eight, eight, and seven points, respectively. Lindsey Wilson held Warner to just 28.8 percent shooting and outr ebounded the Royals 40-24. 

Guess owned the first quarter, scoring 11 points. With 5:30 on the clock, Lindsey Wilson led 9-8, with Guess having all nine of the Blue Raider points until Cox connected on a three that was assisted by Fleming, extending the lead to 12-8. To end the first 10 minutes of action, Lindsey Wilson went on a 7-1 run that lasted 3:09, giving them the 19-13 lead heading into the second quarter. 

19 seconds into the second quarter, Cox began the offensive campaign for Lindsey Wilson connecting on a layup that was assisted by Guess. With 8:08 on the clock, the Blue Raiders went on a 6-0 run that lasted 2:46 extending the lead 27-16. 19 seconds remaining in the first half of play, Grace Brewer dished the ball to Najra Voloder in the paint where Voloder knocked down the pull-up jumper giving the Blue Raiders a 36-25 edge headed into halftime. 

Lindsey Wilson started the second half of play on a 6-0 run that was sparked at 9:27 on a steal from Cox who hit Guess and converted on a reverse layup. At 5:37 Royal Julia Gilbert knocked down a three to end the Blue Raider run, but was quickly answered by a Jarie Thomas layup giving the Blue Raiders a 44-28 lead. With three seconds left on the shot clock, Fleming finds Davis who knocks down a three, extending the Blue Raider lead 49-30 giving Lindsey Wilson a 19-point advantage heading into the final ten minutes of the ballgame. 

Warner University opened up the fourth on a four-point swing on a Courtney Logan three and free throw, cutting the Blue Raider lead to 49-34. Lindsey Wilson answered with a 5-0 run that lasted 0:36 with buckets from Thomas and Fleming, pushing the lead back out to 54-34. With 7:57 remaining the Royals answered back with an 8-0 run on a pair of three-point baskets by Aalyah Watson and Logan, and a layup by Logan cutting the lead to 54-42 with 6:19 remaining. Lindsey Wilson's Davis answered back at 5:31 knocking down another three-pointer of her own, extending the lead back to 57-42. At 4:14, Guess converted on a three assisted by Natalie Gentry, pushing the lead to 60-42. The Royals went on a 6-0 run ignited on Watson's third three-pointer of the day cutting into the deficit and making the Lindsey Wilson lead 60-48 with 2:21 remaining. 

The Blue Raiders will go on to win 64-52, improving to 10-3 on the season and extending their win streak to three. 

Women's Basketball will be back in action on Thursday against Webber International at 1 pm CT.
