Women’s Basketball Extends Win-Streak To Four With 71-44 Win Over Webber International (Fla.)

BABSON PARK, Fla.- Lindsey Wilson defeated the Warriors of Webber International (Fla.) 71-44, moving to 11-3 on the season. 

Emily Cox led the Blue Raider offense picking up 11 points and four assists. Gracie Borders was the other Blue Raider in double figures with 10 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Taylor Guess contributed nine points, eight rebounds, five assists, and two assists, as well as Claire Fleming who contributed eight points, four assists, and four steals. 

Jarie Thomas got the Blue Raider offense going early as she cashed in on a layup just 36 seconds into the game. With 7:17 remaining in the first, Webber International jumped out to an early 6-2 lead until Guess converted on two free throws, cutting the deficit back to two. Lindsey Wilson proceeded to go on a 9-2 run that lasted 5:25 to close out the first ten minutes giving the Blue Raiders a 13-10 lead headed into the second quarter. 

With 9:43 to play in the second quarter, Janiya Davis picked up her second basket of the day on an assist by Claire Fleming which sparked a 14-0 run that lasted 4:38, with Natalie Gentry, Cox, Borders, and Guess adding fuel to the fire in which the Blue Raiders had started, extending the lead to 27-10. To close out the first half, Lindsey Wilson went on a 13-0 run that began at 3:51 on a made three by Khloe Hale, giving Cox her third assist of the game and ending 2:25 later on two free throws by Grace Brewer, sending the Blue Raiders into halftime up 40-20. 

Webber's Jaiden Ross knocked down a freethrow with 9:50 on the clock cutting the lead down to 19, which was quickly answered eight seconds later on a lay up by Cox that was assisted by Guess, pushing the Lindsey Wilson lead out to 21. Warrior Renee Brant came back on the other end, cashing in on a lay up of her own, which was quickly countered by back-to-back jumpers at 8:46 and 8:07 by Gentry and Thomas, making the score 46-23. Ross had an answer, converting on three layups back-to-back-to-back, cutting the Lindsey Wilson lead down to 46-29 with 5:47 to play in the third. With 0:02 left on the clock, Guess found Cox behind the arc where Cox was able to connect on a three at the last second to put the Blue Raiders up 16 heading into the final ten minutes of action.

The start of the fourth quarter was a defensive battle with the first bucket not being scored until 7:19, until Guess converted on a drop step lay up to give Lindsey Wilson a 56-38 lead. With 5:50 on the clock, the second basket of the quarter was scored by Fleming, who was assisted by Borders extending the Blue Raider lead to 20 points. At 4:28, Fleming returned the favor, finding Borders for an open three. With 1:28 remaining, Tyria Tanner picks up a steal, hitting Borders in the open court, who finds Tanner behind the arc who cashes in on an open three extending the lead to 68-40. Borders once again finds the open man on the floor, hitting RaeEllen Jones for a corner three, boosting the final score to 71-44. 

Women's Basketball will be back in action at 5 pm CT on Jan. 3, to take on the Lady Falcons of Simmons College (Ky.) in Biggers Sports Center.
