Women’s Basketball Improves To 12-3 On The Season

COLUMBIA, Ky.-  Lindsey Wilson defeated the Falcons of Simmons College (Ky.) 95-62 improving to 12-3 on the season. 

Lindsey Wilson had five players score in double figures with Emily Cox leading the offensive brigade with 15 points and two assists. Grace Brewer, Taylor Guess, and Jarie Thomas posted 14 points apiece, with Claire Fleming contributing 13 points. 

The first ten minutes of action was a back and forth battle with both teams trading buckets. With 3:16 left in the first, Brewer knocked down a three giving Lindsey Wilson a 14-9 advantage. The Blue Raiders ended the quarter on a 5-0 run with a mid-range jumper from Guess and another three from Brewer giving Lindsey Wilson a 19-14 lead heading into the second quarter.

Simmons started the second quarter on a 7-2 run to tie the score 21-21 with 7:30 left in the first half. At 5:25, The Blue Raiders answered back with a 7-0 run of their own that lasted 1:22 extending their lead to 30-23. Natalie Gentry closed out the first half for Lindsey Wilson knocking down two free throws, sending the Blue Raiders into the half with the 34-31 edge over the Falcons. 

Gentry started the offensive campaign for the Blue Raiders in the second half picking up right where she ended the first half, knocking down two more free throws extending the lead to 36-31 with 9:22 remaining in the third. At 8:31 Lindsey Wilson went on a 5-0 run that started on two made free throws followed by a made basket and-1 by Guess extending the Blue Raider lead to 43-35. The Blue Raiders closed out the third quarter on a 22-6 run that lasted 6:03 going 6-6 from behind the arc and 2-2 from the free throw line extending the lead to 65-44. 

Lindsey Wilson outscored the Falcons 30-18 in the final 10 minutes of play on baskets from eight different Blue Raiders giving them a 95-62 win over Simmons College. 

Women's basketball will be back in action against Georgetown on January 9 for their first conference game of the season at 5:30 CT in Biggers Sports Center.
