(RV) Women’s Basketball Falls to No. 15 Cumberlands in MSC Matchup

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The receiving votes Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team dropped a Mid-South Conference matchup to No. 15 Cumberlands 72-60 Thursday at Biggers Sports Center.

The loss was the Blue Raiders' (15-7, 3-3 MSC) first loss at Biggers Sports Center this season. Lindsey Wilson had three players score in double figures led by Amelia Hodges who scored 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting while going 3-of-5 from beyond the arc. Claire Fleming added 13 points shooting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) while Sydnie Hall had 12. Taylor Guess led the way for the Blue Raiders grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson led 7-5 before the Patriots scored the next seven points to lead 12-7 with 6:33 to play in the quarter. Following a Lucy Patterson layup, Cumberlands rattled off a 10-2 run to increase its lead to 22-11. The Blue Raiders answered ending the first quarter on a 6-0 run to trim the deficit to 22-17.

 Cumberlands opened the second quarter on a 6-0 run jump in front 28-17. Trailing 32-21, the Blue Raiders scored the next five points to make 32-26 with 1:40 remaining in the half. The two teams exchanged points at the end of the half as the Patriots led 34-28 going into the locker room.

The Patriots opened the third quarter on a 6-2 run increasing its lead to 40-30. Hodges connected on a three that got the deficit back to single digits. Cumberlands then scored eight of the next 12 points to increase its lead to 48-37. The Blue Raiders trailed 51-41 heading into the final 10 minutes.

Following a Patriots three, the Blue Raiders went on a 7-0 run to make it 54-48 with 5:31 remaining. Cumberlands responded scoring nine of the next 10 points to increase the lead to 63-49 with 2:29 to play. The Blue Raider responded going on an 8-3 run to make it a 66-57 game. Cumberlands ended the game scoring six of the final nine points as they came away with the 72-60 victory.

The Blue Raiders return to action on Saturday when they host No. 11 Georgetown at 1 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
