COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to No. 11 Georgetown 80-72 on Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.
The Blue Raiders (15-8, 3-4 MSC) were led by
Amelia Hodges who scored a team-high 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting.
Lucy Patterson and
Janiya Davis each scored 14 points while
Sydnie Hall added 11. Patterson also recorded a game-high eight rebounds.
Georgetown got off to a fast start opening the game on a 9-2 run. The Blue Raiders trimmed the deficit to 9-6 after a pair of baskets from Stephens and Guess. The Tigers pushed their lead to 16-10 with 1:20 to play in the quarter before Lindsey Wilson scored four of the quarter's final six points to trail 18-14.
Following a Hodges jumper to make it a two-point game, the Tigers scored four of the next six points to increase their lead to 24-18. After a Fleming layup made it 24-20, Georgetown pushed its lead to 31-21 after a 7-1 run with 3:08 to play in the half. The Blue Raiders went into the locker room down 35-32 after ending the half on an 11-4 run capped off by a Hodges three with two seconds left.
Georgetown pushed its lead to 45-36 in the third quarter before the Blue Raiders answered with a 9-1 run to trim their deficit to 46-45. A Tiger free throw made it 47-45 before Lindsey Wilson went on a 7-3 run to take a 52-49 lead with 3:32 to play in the quarter. Georgetown regained the advantage ending the third quarter on a 14-4 run to lead 63-56.
The Tigers increased their lead to 70-61 with 5:22 to play. Lindsey Wilson then scored the next five points to trim the deficit to 70-66 with 4:21 remaining. Georgetown responded scoring the next seven points to go back up by double digits at 77-66 with 1:43 left. The Blue rattled off six-straight points trimming the deficit to 77-72. Georgetown made its final three free throws to secure the 80-72 victory.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Thursday when they travel to Cumberland (Tenn.) for a 5:30 p.m. CT tipoff.
