COLUMBIA, Ky. – After playing the season's first dozen games on the road, the Lindsey Wilson baseball team will make its 2024 home debut this weekend at Egnew Park against Goshen College (Ind.).
The Blue Raiders went 6-6 during their season-opening road trip, including a 10-9 win at (RV) Bryan (Tenn.) on Tuesday for their fourth win in the last six games.
Chance Stayton has a team-high 10 hits and eight runs batted-in over that six-game stretch. He is also one of two hitters with plus-.400 batting averages.
Bryce Sidler, who is hitting .455 in the last six, has knocked in four runs on five hits.
On the bump, Michell Buchanan and
Reed Marcum were both outstanding in their respective appearances versus Bryan, combining for three hits, five strikeouts and zero runs allowed in five innings. The latter of the two was credited with the win on Tuesday, the first by a Lindsey Wilson reliever this season.
Goshen enters the weekend on a two-game winning streak following a doubleheader sweep of Trinity Christian (Ill.) on February 14. The Maple Leafs are 6-6 overall and have played in only one other road series so far this season at Union (Ky.) earlier this month.
The duo of Joseph Cerda and Peyton Smith pace Goshen with 15 and 12 hits, respectively. The pair have also combined for three of the team's four home runs.
As for pitching, Smith actively leads the Leafs with two wins in two starts. While AJ Lenn and Lance Wilson flank Smith as the only other Goshen pitchers to have 10 or more innings of work under their belts this season.
Lindsey Wilson went 12-9 at Egnew Park in 2023, including 6-3 in non-conference contests. The first such series of 2024 opens at 3 p.m. CST on Friday then continues at 12 and 2:30 p.m. CST on Saturday.
