COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team completed the series sweep of Goshen sweeping a doubleheader on Saturday at Egnew Park.
The Blue Raiders (9-6) have now won five consecutive games, their longest winning streak since the 2022 season. Lindsey Wilson took game one 4-0 and won game two 9-5.
Cohen Achen pitched a complete-game shutout in game one, throwing all seven innings and allowing just four hits, four walks and recording a career-high 16 strikeouts.
Jonathan Barham hit a home run in the game while
Andres Duran and
Sam Gage also drove in a run.
Jackson Steele went 2-for-3 in game two hitting a three-run home run. Five other Blue Raiders also recorded a hit while
Chance Stayton and
Bryce Sidler each drove in a run.
Reed Marcum earned the win pitching four innings of relief allowing no hits one walk and striking out four.
Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 4, Goshen 0
The Blue Raiders got on the board first in the first inning. Gage walked and later in the inning Duran drove in him on a single into left field. Lindsey Wilson increased its lead to 2-0 in the second on a balk. Barham hit a solo home run in the third inning to increase the lead to 3-0.
Achen recorded seven strikeouts in the first three innings and struck out the side in the second. He also struck out the side in the fifth and the seventh inning and recorded multiple strikeouts in the five of the seven innings. The Blue Raiders increased their lead to 4-0 in the sixth on a bases-loaded walk.
Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 9, Goshen 5
The Maple Leafs struck first in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back hits to begin the game put Goshen up 1-0. Goshen added to its lead on an RBI groundout to go up 2-0. Steele drove in three runs with a home run in the bottom of the first giving Lindsey Wilson a 3-2 lead.
Two hit batters and a walk loaded the bases for Goshen in the top of the third. The Maple Leafs took a 4-3 lead after a two-run single. Goshen increased its lead to 5-3 on another RBI-single later in the inning.
Drake Young walked and
Caden Davis was hit by a pitch in the fourth inning. Young then advanced to third on a flyout and stole home to make it 5-4. Stayton tied the game scoring Davis on a single to left field. Sidler gave Lindsey Wilson a 6-5 lead in the fifth driving in a run and Steele scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-5. The Blue Raiders added onto their lead adding two more runs in the sixth.
The Blue Raiders are back in action hosting No. 24 Concordia in a four-game series beginning on March 2 at 1 p.m. CT at Egnew Park.
