LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team defeated Cumberland (Tenn.) 74-64 Thursday at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena.
The Blue Raiders (16-8, 4-4 Mid-South Conference) matched a season-high in made threes and shot a season-best 52.6 percent from beyond the arc. Lindsey Wilson was led by
Janiya Davis who scored a season-high 17 points of 4-of-6 shooting while connecting on both of her attempts from beyond the arc.
Sydnie Hall scored 16 points while shooting 4-of-6 from three.
Lucy Patterson recorded her seventh double-double of the season scoring 13 points and grabbing a game-high 13 rebounds.
Cumberland opened the game scoring six of the first eight points. Lindsey Wilson responded scoring the next seven points all from Hall to take a 9-6 lead with 3:35 to play in the quarter. Following a Phoenix basket, the Blue Raiders ended the first quarter on an 8-2 run propelled by Guess who scored six points to take a 17-10 lead. Lindsey Wilson shot 50 percent from the field in the quarter.
Lindsey Wilson increased its lead to 21-12 with 8:35 to play in the first half. Following a Cumberland basket, the Blue Raiders put together a 13-0 run that lasted 5:32 to take a 34-14 lead with 2:11 left in the second quarter. During the run, Lindsey Wilson connected on three of its five shots from beyond the arc. The Blue Raiders led 37-19 at halftime and shot 5-of-8 from beyond the arc in the second quarter.
The Blue Raiders struggled with turnovers in the third quarter as they had 13 which led to 16 points for the Phoenix. Lindsey Wilson led 39-21 before Cumberland went on a quick 10-0 run that lasted 1:49 to make it 39-31 with 7:33 left in the third. Hall connected on a three to push the Blue Raider lead back to double digits 42-31. The Phoenix answered right back going on a 10-1 run trimming the Lindsey Wilson lead to 43-41 with four minutes to play in the quarter. Cumberland ended the third quarter scoring four of the final five points as Lindsey Wilson led 55-51.
Lindsey Wilson opened the fourth quarter scoring five of the first seven points to lead 60-53. Cumbeerland scored the next four points to trim the Blue Raiders lead to 60-57 with 4:22 to play. Hall connected on a three pointer to put Lindsey Wilson back up by six at 63-57. Leading 63-60, the Blue Raiders ended the game on an 11-4 run to secure the 74-64 victory.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday when they host No. 3 Campbellsville (Ky.) at 1 p.m. CT on Senior Day at Biggers Sports Center.
