COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team travels to Williamsburg, Kentucky for a Mid-South Conference series against No. 4 Cumberlands Friday-Saturday at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
The Blue Raiders head into their third conference series with a 1-5 record in the MSC and are 13-16 overall. Lindsey Wilson dropped games one and two to Georgetown and picked up a 14-4 victory in the finale.
Koby Wall had an outstanding day at the plate going 3-for-4 while driving in seven runs and hitting a home run.
Jonathan Phipps pitched all seven innings allowing two earned runs, four hits, five walks and five strikeouts.
Lindsey Wilson is averaging 5.5 runs per game in MSC play and is batting .270. Wall ranks fourth in the conference batting .571 (8-of-14) in conference games and is tied for first with 10 RBIs in conference games.
Jonathan Barham has posted a .375 average in MSC play this season while
Gabe Board is batting .368.
On the mound,
Cohen Achen enters the weekend 12 strikeouts away from surpassing Scott Sebald as the program's all-time leader in strikeouts. Achen is 3-3 this season with 61 strikeouts, 41 hits allowed and 16 earned run in 38-2/3 innings. Phipps is 1-1 in the MSC with a 3.60 ERA, six hits and has seven strikeouts.
Cumberlands is 27-4 this season having won its last 12 games. The Patriots are 3-0 in the conference and are coming off a sweep of Bethel where they outscored the Wildcats 31-12. In the three games, Charlie Muniz batted .692 driving in eight runs while Evan St. Claire batted .583 while driving in five. Cumberlands ranks second in the NAIA with a .371 batting average and score 10.8 runs per game. On the mound, the Patriots have a 3.84 ERA in 236-2/3 innings pitched. Cesar Avila is 5-0 this season with a 1.77 ERA in 35-2/3innings with 55 strikeouts.
The Patriots took the series over the Blue Raiders last season 2-1 and have won 11 of the last 12 matchups.
First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT followed by a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon CT at Doyle Buhl Stadium.
