WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team concluded its Mid-South Conference regular season schedule on Saturday afternoon against No. 4 Cumberlands (Ky.), dropping back-to-back games to wrap up the series.
Natalie Wandrie finished the day with a team-high three hits, and
Brylee Pickerell and
Melaina Tucker each contributed two hits.
Game One: Lindsey Wilson 5, No. 4 Cumberlands 6
The Blue Raiders pushed the Patriots to the brink in the first of Saturday's twin bill, battling back from a five-run deficit before ultimately falling in the seventh inning.
Cumberlands pounced for four runs in its first at-bat of the day, then added a fifth in the bottom leg of the fourth frame.
Two innings later, Lindsey Wilson's gears began to turn. Three consecutive singles from Tucker, Pickerell, and
Kendall Dailey quickly loaded the bases and chased away Patriots' starter Talli Burgess. The first batter for the new Cumberlands pitcher was
Olivia Franceschi, and the junior delivered a two-run RBI-double to right field to plate Tucker and pinch-runner
McKenna Ingram.
Moments later,
Kelsie Bostock singled home Pickerell and eventually scored with Franceschi when a hit by
Kayley Bruener was misplayed by the hosts.
A solid bottom of the inning by
Savannah Robbins and the Blue Raider defense sent the game into the seventh knotted at 5-5, but the Patriots regrouped and kept Lindsey Wilson off the board to set themselves up for the go-ahead double soon after.
Robbins worked 5.2 innings of relief in all, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and dealing four scoreless innings.
Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 0, Cumberlands 8 (6 Innings)
A five-run second inning and a three-run sixth inning proved the difference in game two.
Cumberlands connected on 11 hits while limiting the Blue Raiders to four from the likes of Pickerell, Wandrie, Tucker, and
Madyson Jones.
All four of Lindsey Wilson's hits came over the fifth and sixth innings, however, Patriots' starter Morgan Radford never broke stride and held the visitors off the scoreboard.
Grace Adams started in the circle for the Blue Raiders and went three complete innings with two strikeouts before
K'Asia Palmer closed the last 2.1 innings and surrendered just one earned run.
Lindsey Wilson will return home to Columbia to host Midway (Ky.) for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. CST on Tuesday, April 23.
