LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team wrapped up the regular season splitting a Mid-South Conference doubleheader Saturday at Woody Hunt Stadium.
The Blue Raiders took game one 3-0 to clinch the series and fell in game two 22-2. Lindsey Wilson closes out the regular season with an 18-24 record and a 5-13 mark in the MSC.
Game One: Lindsey Wilson 3, Cumberland 0 (7 innings)
Matthew Schultz and
Chance Stayton each recorded two hits in the game one victory to clinch the series win. Schultz and
Braxton Smith each hit a home run in the win while
Koby Wall also drove in a run.
Jonathan Phipps pitched all seven innings, allowing six hits and four walks while recording five strikeouts.
The Blue Raiders looked to strike first in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back one-out singles by Stayton and Barham had runners on first and second. With two outs,
Andres Duran singled into left and Stayton rounded third and headed home and was out at the plate. Lindsey Wilson got on the board in the fourth inning. Duran was hit by a pitch and then scored on a Wall triple to right-center field.
Schultz led off the fifth inning with a home run increasing the Blue Raider lead to 2-0. Smith hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the sixth to make it a 3-0 game. Cumberland led off the home half of the sixth with a single. Following a ground out, a walk and an error loaded the bases for the Phoenix. Phipps then got the next batter to ground into a double-play ending the Cumberland threat.
Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 2, Cumberland 22 (7 innings)
The Phoenix took control in game two scoring 10 runs in the third inning. Lindsey Wilson got on the board in the top of the fourth on a Wall RBI groundout. Cumberland increased its lead adding four in the fourth and six in the fifth.
Jordan Price drove in the second run of the game for the Blue Raiders. The Phoenix pushed across two more in the bottom half of the sixth.
Lindsey Wilson now begins preparations for the MSC tournament which begins on Wednesday, May 1 in Bowling Green, Ky. The full tournament bracket is scheduled to be released later on Saturday by conference officials.
