COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team earned another draw on the dirt diamond on Saturday afternoon, dropping game one against Bethel (Tenn.) before rebounding to take game two.
Elizabeth Funk and
Melaina Tucker led the Blue Raider offense with three hits each, and
Natalie Wandrie chipped in two hits to make up eight of the host's 14 hits on the day.
Game One: Lindsey Wilson 1, Bethel 10
A pair of crooked scoring innings by the Wildcats helped the visitors pull away to twin bill-opening win.
Bethel opened with a run in the top leg of the first inning, but Lindsey Wilson quickly answered back in its half of the second frame with an RBI-double from Wandrie to plate
Kelsie Bostock.
The Wildcats got their lead back the following half-inning and eventually ran away from there.
Tucker recorded two of her team-high three hits in game one, while
Olivia Franceschi, Bostock, and Wandrie all posted a double apiece.
Four different pitchers saw time in the circle, including
Savannah Robbins who closed the final 3.2 innings with a season-best five strikeouts and three earned runs on six hits.
Freshman
K'Asia Palmer (L, 1-2) worked two complete innings and allowed zero earned runs while retiring one on strikes.
Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 5, Bethel 1
The brilliant pitching of
Kayden Murray struck again in game two, as the freshman tallied 11 putouts on the rubber en route to her 10th victory of the season.
Meanwhile, on offense, the Blue Raiders turned in five runs on seven hits, with three of those hits coming off the bat of Funk.
The senior was heard from initially in the bottom half of the second inning when she sent her third home run of the season over the left field fence to put Lindsey Wilson ahead, 1-0.
Kayley Bruener added to the Blue Raiders' lead in the following inning after a Wildcat error allowed the infielder to score from first base.
Bethel cut into Lindsey Wilson's lead with a solo home run in the fourth inning but got nothing further.
In the sixth frame, an RBI-single by Funk coupled with a pair of Bethel miscues gifted the home side three more runs to tack on some insurance.
For safe measures, Murray locked in and retired the side in the top of the seventh on strikes.
Lindsey Wilson continues its homestand at 3 p.m. CST on Tuesday, April 9 against Asbury (Ky.) at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
