COLUMBIA, Ky.- The No. 18 Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team fell to Spring Arbor 3-2 Saturday on the final day of the Ray Wells Classic at Waler S. Reuling Stadium.
The Blue Raiders (0-1-1) outshot the Cougars 25 to 13, as well as led shots on goal 14 to six.
Dominic Ayella and
Juliano Manfro each scored a goal for Lindsey Wilson.
Niccolas Souza and
Kenn Muendo each recorded an assist.
Ayella got the Blue Raiders on the board in the 35th minute when he fired a shot past the Cougar goalkeeper. Spring Arbor answered soon after in the 39th minute on a goal from Josh Madery. Lindsey Wilson re-took the lead in the 42nd minute on a Manfro goal.
The intensity continued the second half of the match as physicality and tensions ran high. In the 61st minute Spring Arbor's Caleb Swartzendruber picked up a red card leaving the Cougar's to finish with ten men on the field.
Scoring was stagnant during the early minutes of the second half with Spring Arbor getting a breakthrough with a goal in the 79th minute by David Magalhaes. The Cougars took the lead in the 80th minute on a Jack Reynolds goal off of a free kick. Lindsey Wilson recorded five shots in the final 10 minutes but were unable to find the equalizer.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Saturday, Aug. 31 when they take on No. 19 Rio Grande (Ohio) in the NAIA Atlanta Classic.
