Volleyball Ventures to Ohio for Four-Match Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky. – On the heels of its home-opening victory Wednesday night, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team is back on the road this weekend to Rio Grande, Ohio for the Emileigh Jo Cooper Memorial Classic.

The Blue Raiders will face former Mid-South Conference rivals West Virginia Tech and Shawnee State (Ohio), as well as in-state foe Kentucky Christian and a first-time opponent for the program in Ohio Christian. With that being said, Lindsey Wilson is a combined 38-3 all-time against this weekend's schedule.

West Virginia Tech is first up for the Blue Raiders at 11 a.m. CST on Friday, August 30. A Mid-South Conference member from 2006 to 2012, the Golden Bears are 1-4 to start the year with their lone win coming over Fisk (Tenn.) in Fort Wayne, Indiana on August 24.

Then, at 1:30 p.m. CST on Friday, Lindsey Wilson takes on Ohio Christian for the first time. The Trail Blazers are winners of their last three matches in straight-set decisions. On the season, Ohio Chrisitan is 5-2, including a 3-0 sweep against the Blue Raiders' opponent on Wednesday, Brescia (Ky.).

On Saturday, Lindsey Wilson opens at 11 a.m. CST versus Kentucky Chrisitan, whose only result to date is a 3-0 loss to Ohio Christian on August 27. In 2023, the Blue Raiders swept the Knights at home to improve to 2-0 all-time in their head-to-head history.

A 4 p.m. CST match-up with Shawnee State (Ohio) represents the final bout of the weekend. The Blue Raiders and the Bears last met on November 6, 2022, with Lindsey Wilson sealing a 3-0 victory. Since 2011, the Blue Raiders have won 21 consecutive matches against Shawnee State, including the last 17 in straight-sets.

Lindsey Wilson is rolling off its best performance of the season on Wednesday, hitting .319 with 57 kills, the third-highest total in the last 41 matches.

Ola Wyrzykowska paces the team in total kills and service aces with 41 and 11, respectively. The junior is also third on the team for digs and fourth for total blocks.
