WILMORE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball extended its season-long winning streak to five matches on Thursday evening, defeating Asbury (Ky.) in four sets.
Ola Wyrzykowska recorded her third double-double of the season behind 17 kills and a career-high 20 digs.
Wiktoria Stankiewicz also shined defensively, posting 26 digs to go along with two service aces and a kill.
As a team, Lindsey Wilson finished with a season-best 73 digs and eight solo blocks, including three from
Bella Christofaro. The Blue Raiders' 58 kills on the night are the second-most in a match.
The homestanding Eagles grabbed the early lead to go up 5-3. Lindsey Wilson chipped away slowly but still trailed 10-9. Consecutive kills by
Elisa Burzio and Wyrzykowska opened an 8-2 run for the Blue Raiders. A solid attack percentage of 0.289 helped the visitors score eight of the last 12 points of the set and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
Asbury came back firing in the second frame to build a 10-1 advantage. Following a timeout, the Blue Raiders erupted for a 10-0 rally. From there, the two sides swapped short runs, eventually pushing the set past the 25-point minimum. The Eagles managed to shave off a Lindsey Wilson set-point to tally the next three points and knot the match at 1-1.
The third set came down to the final stretch with alternating chances on both sides of the net. Leading 23-22, a successful attack by
Savanah Pippin and an offensive miscue by Asbury gave Lindsey Wilson the all-important set win.
A 7-1 stretch midway through the fourth set provided the Blue Raiders with a five-point cushion. Despite the Eagles soaring back to tie the score at 18-18, Lindsey Wilson ultimately took control off two kills apiece from Christofaro and Wyrzykowska, coupled with three costly attacking errors by the home team.
The Blue Raiders' active winning streak is the longest since the 2022 season. It is also the first time in two years that multiple players logged 20 or more digs in a single match.
Lindsey Wilson will take the weekend off before resuming its Mid-South schedule at 6 p.m. CST on Tuesday, September 17 at Cumberlands (Ky.).
