COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 25-ranked Lindsey Wilson football team plays host to Bluefield (Va.) in the 2024 home opener Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at Parnell Family Stadium.
The Blue Raiders enter play with a record of 1-1 after defeating Point (Ga.) 33-20 last week. Lindsey Wilson set a program record holding Point to -48 rushing yards in the victory. Lindsey Wilson also produced 17 tackles for a loss, scored a touchdown off an interception, and forced a safety.
Offensively,
David Gardner Jr. rushed for a career-best 89 yards with a touchdown.
Reid Brickey ran for 48 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown while
Caleb Marsh had 25 yards on five carries and a touchdown.
Through two games, the Lindsey Wilson defense ranks in the top five of the NAIA in rushing defense (3.5 yards per game), interceptions (5), and sacks (10) this season.
Lou Burchfield ranks tied for fourth in the NAIA with two.
Bluefield enters Saturday's matchup with a 1-1 record. The Rams are coming off a 31-9 loss to Cumberlands (Ky.). Bluefield led 9-0 before Cumberlands scored 31 unanswered points. Nathan Herstich threw for 175 yards with one interception and recorded 30 rushing yards. Christopher Mack caught four passes for 91 yards. The Bluefield defense was led by Leyton Fowler who had 12 tackles and forced a fumble.
Saturday is the seventh meeting between the two programs. Lindsey Wilson has won the previous six meetings including a 45-28 victory last season. This is the first matchup in Columbia since 2015.
