MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Lindsey Wilson men's soccer dropped a hard-fought 3-2 decision to No. 3-ranked Bethel (Ind.) on Saturday at Morey Field.
The Blue Raiders (1-4-2) conceded three quick goals early in the second half before mounting a comeback with two goals of their own, but the rally fell short against the undefeated Pilots (6-0-2).
Bethel opened the scoring in the 49th minute when Andres Gonzalez Maza netted the first goal. Just two minutes later, Piero Sabroso doubled the lead off an assist from Gonzalez Maza. The Pilots added a third goal in the 55th minute through Jelle Born.
Lindsey Wilson responded in the 59th minute when Juliano Manfro found the back of the net, assisted by Sebastian Tregarthen. Shortly after, in the 61st minute, Jean-Wikes Dutreuil scored another goal for the Blue Raiders, again assisted by Tregarthen.
Despite several chances in the final 30 minutes, Lindsey Wilson couldn't find an equalizer. The Blue Raiders were outshot 12-9, with Bethel holding a slight 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
Both goalkeepers made four saves, and Bethel led in corner kicks 11-6. The match saw several bookings, with Bethel receiving four yellow cards and Lindsey Wilson committing 10 fouls.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Thursday when they travel to WVU Tech, looking to bounce back from their second consecutive loss.
