Blue Raider Volleyball to Challenge (RV) Cumberlands on the Road

9/16/2024 4:00:00 PM

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson volleyball team takes its five-match winning streak to Williamsburg on Tuesday to continue Mid-South Conference play against (RV) Cumberlands (Ky.).

This will be the first meeting between the Blue Raiders and the Patriots since November 11, 2023, when the two sides went head-to-head in the conference tournament championship match. Cumberlands' win in that bout was the third straight in the all-time series. Lindsey Wilson had won the previous 13 against the Patriots from 2015 through 2022.

Cumberlands suffered just its first loss of the season on Saturday to No. 10 Indiana Kokomo. At 19-1 overall, the Patriots boast one of the NAIA's top offenses, as they actively lead the nation in total kills and assists, while also ranking inside the top five for service aces and digs.

Four-time Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week Allyson Grava currently sits second in the NAIA for total kills with 274. The senior went off for 21 kills in back-to-back matches on September 7 but has been held to less than 10 kills in each of the Patriots' last four contests.

As for Lindsey Wilson, the tandem of Ola Wyrzykowska and Elisa Burzio have been firing on all cylinders during the Blue Raiders' recent success. Both attackers are averaging over three kills per set and hitting plus-.250. The latter of the two has recorded double-digits in kills in three straight matches, including a career-high 17 last week against Campbellsville (Ky.) Burzio is also posting 10.7 digs per match over her last three appearances.

As a team, the Blue Raiders are outhitting their opponents .252 to .182 during their active winning streak and producing twice as many service aces.

Each of the last five meetings between Lindsey Wilson and Cumberlands have gone past the three-set minimum, and in seven of the 13 sets played a season ago, both teams reached the 20-point mark.

Live coverage of Tuesday's action will be provided by the University of the Cumberlands' Patriots All-Access. The junior varsity match opens the doubleheader at 4 p.m. CST, followed by the varsity match at 6 p.m. CST.
