COLUMBIA, Ky. - Felix Poschmann scored the lone goal of the game in the 86th minute, giving the No. 25 ranked Lindsey Wilson men's soccer team a 1-0 victory over (RV) Georgia Gwinnett Thursday at Walter S. Reuling Stadium-Ray Wells Field.
Poschmann was finally able to get the Blue Raiders on the scoreboard after what had been a defensive battle between the two teams.
Sebastian Tregarthen won possession and was able to keep possession around two Georgia Gwinnett defender. He then played a through ball to Poschmann who dribbled around two defenders and fired a left foot strike from just outside the box pat the goalkeeper.
The Blue Raiders held an 11-8 edge in shots and 4-1 in shots on goal. Lindsey Wilson did not allow a Georgia Gwinnett shot on goal in the second half. Tregarthen recorded two shots on goal while
Michael Rempel and Poschmann each had one.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes. The two teams each recorded five shots while the Blue Raiders held a 2-1 advantage in shots on goal. Tregarthen recorded both shots on target for Lindsey Wilson in the half. With under a minute to play in the half, Tregarthen's second shot was stopped by a diving effort from the Grizzly goalkeeper to keep it tied.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Monday when they face Northwestern Ohio at 3 p.m. CT at Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium.
