COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 20 Lindsey Wilson football team travels to Valley, Alabama for a non-conference matchup against Point (Ga.) Saturday at Ram Stadium at 11 a.m. CT.
The Blue Raiders are looking to bounce back after losing in the season opener to Texas Wesleyan 34-24 on Aug. 29. Lindsey Wilson totaled 278 yard in the game with 153 yards coming on the ground.
Reigning Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week
Davontaye Saunders returned three kicks for 140 yards including a 92-yard touchdown. Saunders also had five carries for 42 yards and caught two passes for 32 yards and a touchdown.
David Gardner Jr. ran the ball for 68 yards on 16 carries while
Taborie Reed caught a pair of passes for 40 yards.
Defensively, the Blue Raiders held Texas Wesleyan to just 53 yards rushing.
Deuce Morton II led the Lindsey Wilson with 10 total tackles.
Troy Churchill had two tackles for loss and a half a sack while
Lou Burchfield had a half sack and an interception.
Jeremiah Fergerson also had an interception.
Point enters Saturday's matchup coming off a 20-6 loss to No. 8 Bethel (Tenn.). The Skyhawks totaled just 181 yards in the game and had -16 rushing yards. Antwuan Clayton was 14-of-36 with 197 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions. Quintravious Teasley caught six passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. The Point defense recorded six sacks with three coming from Cortez Thomas. Promise Williams had two sacks while Kemorion Larkin had one and totaled 14 tackles.
Saturday's matchup is the third-ever meeting between the two teams. Lindsey Wilson holds a 2-0 advantage in the series with both matchups coming in Columbia. Last season, the Blue Raiders defeated the Skyhawks 57-7.
