COLUMBIA, Ky.- Lindsey Wilson fell to #3 Campbellsville University (Ky.) 82-61
The Lindsey Wilson offense was led by Saniyah Shelton with 17 points, four rebounds, and three steals, and two assists. Jarie Thomas was the other Blue Raider who scored in double digits for the Blue Raiders with 10 points, three rebounds, a steal, and a block.
Shelton opened up scoring for the Blue Raiders knocking down a mid-range jumper by Claire Fleming just 23 seconds into the game. At 5:30, the Tigers went on a 7-0 run that lasted 2:26 but was put to an end by a Shelton layup with 3:04 to play in the first quarter, cutting the Campbellsville lead to 15-10. Shelton was able to convert on another lay up with 2:11 on the clock sending the Blue Raiders into the second quarter trailing 19-12.
Shooting was cold through the last ten minutes of the first half with the Blue Raiders only knocking down four-of-six free throws and not connecting on their first bucket of the second quarter until Shelton converted on a layup at 2:39. With 1:52 on the clock, Lindsey Wilson went on a 6-1 run cutting the Campbellsville lead to 31-24 with a layup from Shelton with 0:02 seconds before the end of the first half.
Campbellsville started the second half on a 6-0 run which was quickly answered by a 5-0 run by the Blue Raiders that was sparked by Grace Brewer coming off the bench and banking in a three at the top of the key with 6:37 on the clock and quickly found Jarie Thomas 16 seconds later cutting the Campbellsville lead back to single digits at 38-29. Lindsey Wilson closed the quarter out on a 7-2 run trailing 58-42 going into the last ten minutes of play.
Shelton converted on two free throws at 9:22 to start the scoring for Lindsey Wilson followed by a Taylor Guess Jumper and Emily Cox layup at 8:17 and 7:40. Cold shooting and turnovers proved to be to much for the Blue Raiders as they would go on to lose
Women's Basketball will be back in action on January 18 at 1 pm CT followed by the men at 3 pm CT to host the Phoenix of Cumberland University (Tenn.) in Biggers Sports Center.
