Jarie Thomas Knocks Down Shot With 0:02 Seconds On The Clock Giving Blue Raiders First Conference Win

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raiders took to the hardwood defeating the Phoenix of Cumberland University (Tenn.) 69-67, securing their first conference win of the season. 

Taylor Guess led the offensive brigade for Lindsey Wilson posting 19 points. Saniyah Shelton added 16 points, nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jarie Thomas contributed 13 points, a game-winning basket, six rebounds, two steals, and one block. Fleming rounded out the double digit scoring for the Blue Raiders tacking on 10 points, three steals, and two assists.

The Phoenix started the final ten minutes of play on a 7-0 run that ended at 7:05 on a jumper from the short corner by Thomas that was assisted by Grace Brewer sparking an 8-0 run from the Blue Raiders that lasted 2:37. At 2:18, Guess knocked down two free throws pushing the Blue Raider lead back to 64-57. With the game tied at 64-64, Fleming was fouled in the back court with 28.8 seconds left on the clock to put her at the free throw line where she knocked down both free throws giving the Blue Raiders the 66-64 lead. With 0:09 seconds on the clock, Phoenix Ever Walker knocked down a three to tie the game at 67-67. The Blue Raiders push the ball up the court where Shelton finds Thomas with 0:01 on the clock who knocks down a short corner pull-up giving Lindsey Wilson their first conference win of the season,  69-67. 

After trading baskets back fourth for the first 5:30 minutes of the game. With back to back layups by Shelton at 4:01 and 3:43, Lindsey Wilson went back on top to lead 9-8. The Blue Raiders closed out the quarter on a 9-2 run that lasted 1:40 that was capped off by a three made by Thomas at 1:02 assisted by Guess and a contested layup by Fleming with 0:37 on the clock giving Lindsey Wilson the 18-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter. 

Lindsey Wilson owned the second quarter going on a run that started 5:03 and ended at 1:53 lasting 3:22 with jumpers coming from Shelton, Guess, Natalie Gentry, and Thomas. The Blue Raiders outscored the Phoenix 25-16, ending the quarter on a 16-4 run where they went six-for-six from the field, and four-for-four from the charity stripe giving them a 43-29 edge headed into the locker room at half time. 

Cumberland came out of the locker room knocking down three consecutive three pointers to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead down to single digits at 43-38. Thomas answered with a bucket of her own at 7:00 on an assist by Shelton followed by a three by Guess on an assist by Fleming to push the Blue Raider lead back to 48-38. At 5:13, the Blue Raiders went on 4-0 run with Emily Cox and Shelton knocking down four consecutive free throws contributing to the 54-45 lead Lindsey Wilson took headed into the final ten minutes of play. 

Women's Basketball will be back in action in Mackenzie, Tenn. on Thursday at 5:30 pm CT where they will take on the #9 Bethel University (Tenn.) Wildcats.
