Women's Basketball Drops Road Matchup Against #9 Bethel

MCKENZIE, Tenn.-  The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell to #9 Bethel (Tenn.) 83-65 Thursday at Crisp Arena.

Taylor Guess led the Blue Raider offense contributing 16 points alongside six rebounds and three assists. Emily Cox, Saniyah Shelton, and Jarie Thomas were the other Blue Raiders to score in double figures with 11, 10, and 10, respectively. 

Shelton started the scoring for the Blue Raiders knocking down a jumper at 9:37 to give Lindsey Wilson a quick 2-0 lead. With 8:38 on the clock, Guess started a 4-0 run that lasted 0:42 pushing the lead to 6-2. After trading buckets during the first quarter, the Wildcats took a 17-15 lead headed into the second. 

With 5:42 left to play in the first half, Cox converted on a contested layup that was assisted by Guess igniting a 9-3 run for the Blue Raiders with contributions also coming from a Guess layup, Natalie Gentry three pointer, and Isabel Garcia layup. Scoring was even for the second quarter with both teams adding 18 points to their totals giving Bethel the 35-33 edge headed into halftime. 

Bethel opened the second half on a 14-2 run with Lindsey Wilson falling behind 49-35 with 5:04 to play in the third. With 4:56 on the clock, Grace Brewer finds the bottom of the net from behind the arc on a pass from Claire Fleming to cut into the lead, making it 49-38. Lindsey Wilson closed out the third quarter on a 7-0 run with Cox knocking down two free throws, Guess connecting on a three assisted by Brewer, and another Guess layup cutting into the 61-47 deficit. 

The Blue Raiders were outscored 22-18 in the final ten minutes of action and gave up 42 points in the paint to their own 28, and giving Bethel an extra 15 points off of turnovers compared to five of their own leading to their 83-65 loss to the #9 Wildcats. 

Women's basketball will be back in action on Saturday at 1 pm CST, in Henderson, Tenn. to take on # 7 Freed-Hardeman University.
