HENDERSON, Tenn. - The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team fell in a Mid-South Conference matchup 74-52 at Brewer Sports Center to No. 7 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Saturday.
Saniyah Shelton matched a season-high in points with a game-high 22 while shooting 8-of-14 from the field, 2-of-3 three from beyond the arc and converting on all four of her attempts from the charity stripe. Shelton also added six rebounds and a pair of blocks.
Claire Fleming added eight points while
Emily Cox scored seven.
In the opening 10 minutes, Lindsey Wilson shot 38.5 percent from the field and connected on just one of its four shots from beyond the arc. The Lions opened the game scoring nine of the first 11 points. Freed-Hardeman took an 18-7 lead with 1:04 to play in the quarter after a 7-1 run. The Blue Raiders closed out the first quarter scoring the final five points capped off by Shelton three in the final seconds.
The two teams traded baskets in the first four minutes of the second quarter as the Blue Raiders trailed 23-18. Freed-Hardeman then went on an 8-3 run that lasted over two and a half minutes to take a 31-20 advantage with 3:26 left in the half. Lindsey Wilson closed out the first half on a 7-2 run to trail 33-27.
Freed-Hardeman opened the third quarter on a 10-3 run that lasted 3:08 as they increased their lead to 43-30. Lindsey Wilson cut the deficit back down to single digits at 43-35 with five-straight points from Shelton. The Lions responded scoring the next seven points increasing their lead to 50-35 with 2:11 to play in the quarter. Lindsey Wilson trailed 51-37 going into the fourth quarter.
The Blue Raiders trailed 60-39 early in the fourth after a 9-2 run by Freed-Hardeman. Lindsey Wilson scored six of the next eight points to trim the deficit to 62-45 with 3:58 remaining. The Lions outscored the Blue Raiders 12-7 for the remainder of the game.
