Men’s Tennis drops season opener at Eastern Kentucky

RICHMOND, Ky. -- No. 14-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis dropped its season opener today 4-3 to NCAA Division I Eastern Kentucky at the Greg Adams Tennis Center.

The Colonels (2-5) won four of the six singles matches to come back and steal the win over the Blue Raiders (0-1).

Lindsey Wilson jumped out in front 1-0 after winning two of the three doubles matches to take the doubles point.

Santiago Passoni and Hans Schubert -- who enters the season ranked No. 16 in the NAIA doubles rankings -- were dominant in their first doubles match of the regular season. The Blue Raider dup did not drop a game in a 6-0 win on court one over Nuno Pinheiro and Christian Cantos.

Eastern Kentucky pulled even in doubles with a 6-2 win on court two. Adrian Contreras and Ryan Kitchin beat German Delcanto and Lucas Marques to set up the decisive match on court three.

Jaume Barcelo and Marcal Miret secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Mario Monclus and Kartik Parhar for the 1-0 lead in the team match.

Eastern Kentucky pulled even in the match with a win in the first singles match.

Cantos cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Passoni in the third-seeded singles match to tie the match at 1-1.

Lindsey Wilson's Barcelo inched the Blue Raiders back in front with his second win of the day. He posted a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Monclus on court four for a 2-1 team lead.

The Colonels won back-to-back matches on courts one and two to take their first lead on day 3-2.

Miret pulled Lindsey Wilson into a 3-3 with EKU in the fifth-seeded match, beating Kolevski 6-2, 6-1.

But the Colonels captured the decisive point on court six as Ryan Kitchin beat Marques 6-1, 6-3 to help Eastern Kentucky win the team match 4-3.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 6:30 p.m. CT on January 31, as the Blue Raiders face No. 5-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan at the ITA Indoor National Championships in Fulton, Missouri.
