Tregarthen Signs Professional Contract with Birmingham Legion FC

COLUMBIA, Ky. – Former Lindsey Wilson men's soccer standout Sebastian Tregarthen has signed his first professional contract with Birmingham Legion FC.

Tregarthen, a native of Dolores, Uruguay, makes the jump to the professional ranks after a decorated collegiate career with the Blue Raiders. The forward was a two-time NAIA All-American and Mid-South Conference Player of the Year. During his two seasons at Lindsey Wilson, he tallied 17 goals and 13 assists, proving to be a consistent attacking force.

"Since I was a kid, my dream was to become a professional soccer player, and I always knew the United States could be a great place to chase that dream," Tregarthen said. "Coming to Lindsey Wilson was a huge step forward, not just in soccer but also in my education. The support I received from my teammates, coaches, and the entire community helped shape me as a player and a person. I'll always be grateful for the experience."

Tregarthen's impact extended beyond Lindsey Wilson, as he also shined in the USL2 ranks with Asheville City SC. His standout performances earned him a spot on the 2024 USL2 Team of the Year, along with South Central Division Player of the Year honors.

Lindsey Wilson head coach Sicelo Buthelezi praised Tregarthen's development and work ethic, emphasizing the program's role in preparing players for the next level.

"We're thrilled for Seba and proud of what he has accomplished," Buthelezi said. "We saw his potential early on when we scouted him in Uruguay, and he's lived up to every expectation. He's our fourth player to sign a professional contract since I became head coach, and it's another testament to our 'Path to Pro' program. We strive to create an environment where players can develop and reach their dreams, and Seba is a great example of that."

Tregarthen will join a Birmingham Legion FC squad looking to make a strong push in the USL Championship this season. The club will begin its 2025 campaign at home against Loudoun United FC following a four-match preseason schedule, including a fixture against MLS side Atlanta United.
