Blue Raiders Drop Conference Opener To #10 Georgetown

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The Blue Raiders fell to #10 Georgetown (Ky.) in their home conference opener 82-70

Leading the offense for the Blue Raiders was Taylor Guess who led all scores for the night with 24 points four rebounds, one assist, and one block. Saniyah Shelton tacked on 22 points six rebounds, two steals, and one assist. Jarie Thomas was the other Blue Raider who scored in double figures tonight with 12 points, eight rebounds, one assist, one steal, and one block. 

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early 6-0 lead as Guess knocked down a contested jumper and layup, while Shelton contributed a layup. Georgetown's Teionni McDaniel answered back with a layup which was quickly answered back with another Guess layup and two Shelton free throws with 7:08 on the clock giving Lindsey Wilson the early 10-2 lead. The Tiger's went on a 6-0 run of their own to bring the game back within two. The Blue Raiders closed out the first quarter on a 10-7 run giving them a 20-15 advantage headed into the second quarter of action. 

With 9:39 to play in the first half, Guess knocked down a three pointer pushing the leaf to 23-15. At 9:27 McDaniel knocked down a three, starting a 15-2 run for Georgetown that lasted 5:11 giving the Tigers a 30-25 lead. With 0:01 left on the clock before halftime, Shelton knocked down two free throws to cut the Georgetown lead to single digits, trailing the Tigers 40-31 headed into the locker room. 

Shelton knocked down a mid-range jumper with the shot clock winding down and 9:11 on the game clock to cut the Tiger lead down to seven, making the score 40-33. With 4:09 to play in the third, Claire Fleming muscled her way into the lane for a layup followed by a Guess step-back three late in the shot clock cutting the score to 51-45. With 0:33 on the clock, Georgetown's Trinity Klock knocks down two free throws giving the Tigers a 62-49 advantage. Guess found herself with the ball again on an assist by Shelton knocking down a three at the top of the key with 0:12 left on the clock cutting the lead back down to 10 headed into the final ten minutes of action.

Isabel Garcia converts on a layup in the paint assisted by Guess with 9:51 to play in the ball game to cut the lead back to single digits at 62-54. Georgetown's AJ Stevenson answered with a three extending the lead back out to 11. With 8:00 to play, Lindsey Wilson went on a 6-2 run that lasted 2:32 with buckets from Natalie Gentry and Thomas as well as a pair of free throws from Thomas making the score 67-60. Georgetown ended the game on a 15-10 run, yielding a final score of 82-70. 

Lindsey Wilson will be back in action on Saturday against #3 Campbellsville (Ky.) at 1 pm CT, followed by the men's game at 3 pm CT, in Biggers Sports Center.
