No. 5 Men’s Soccer Hosts Firehawks

COLUMBIA, Ky.- The No.5-ranked Blue Raider men's soccer team hosts the University of Tennessee Southern on Thursday at 7 P.M. CT on Ray Wells Field at Walter S. Reuling Stadium. 

Lindsey Wilson is entering tonight's match on a two-game losing streak to the previous No.14-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) 3-2 on Oct.1, and a 1-0 decision on Oct.9 at the previous No.8-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.). 

LWU sits at 8-2-1 on the season, outscoring opponents 28-8 and averaging 2.55 goals per game. Dominic Ayella and Milan Diao lead the Blue Raider offense with six and five goals, respectively. Michael Rempel heads the assist column with six, while also contributing three goals. Francois Djiba defends the net with a 7-1-1 record, tallying 30 saves and allowing only six goals. The Blue Raiders will enter tonight's match without Ayella due to a red card against Cumberland University, but will have defender Mao Wong back after a one-game suspension also as a consequence of a red card in the Cumberland game. 

UT Southern holds a 7-4-3 record with their most recent match resulting in a 1-1 tie against Faulkner (Ala.) on Saturday. The Firehawks have outscored opponents 35 to 21, averaging 2.50 goals a game. Mak Binder leads the offense with six goals and four assists, while Filippo Fregoli leads in assists with five, while adding five goals. Louis Hester holds a 7-4-3 goalie record, tallying 47 saves while allowing 21 goals. 

This will be just the sixth all-time meeting between these two programs with each program tallying two wins and two losses as well as a tie. Lindsey Wilson took the last match 3-1 in Pulaski, Tennessee on  November 9, 2022. 

Lindsey Wilson will step onto Ray Wells Field inside Walter S. Reuling Stadium at 7 P.M. CT Thursday night to face the Firehawks of UT Southern.
