GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The (RV) Blue Raider volleyball team opened the second half of its Mid-South Conference schedule on Thursday, defeating Georgetown (Ky.) in straight-sets.
Lindsey Wilson had eight blocks to the Tigers' three, led by freshman
Duda Becho's half-dozen.
Sofija Pjevic added two solo block assists to go with five kills.
Ola Wyrzykowska paced the visiting offense with 16 kills.
Luiza Gonçalves and
Monika Szwarc each passed out double-digit assists, 17 and 14, respectively, and
Wiktoria Stankiewicz turned in a team-high 13 digs.
The Blue Raiders used a four-point run in the first set to break away from a 14-14 tie. Wyrzykowska contributed a block and a kill during the spurt. Georgetown responded on a 4-1 swing to knot the score at 19-19, then eventually took a 23-22 lead. A Tiger hitting error subsequently tied the set before a
Hannah Garcia service ace and Wyrzykowska kill won it for Lindsey Wilson.
With a Robinson ace, the Blue Raiders capped another four-point stretch to go up 7-3 in the second. The hosts countered by going on a 11-1 tear. Out of a timeout, Lindsey Wilson stormed back with kills by Pjevic,
Hana Kisa, and
Marija Raonic. Back-to-back spikes from Wyrzykowska pushed the Blue Raiders in front, 20-19, then a Georgetown service error and block by Becho established Lindsey Wilson's lead for good as Wyrzykowska and
Natalie Wandrie hit for consecutive kills to end the set.
Trailing 12-9 in the third, two Tiger errors before a Wyrzykowska ace leveled the score. The two sides traded runs and Georgetown went ahead 21-18. A kill by Raonic sparked a six-point turnaround with additional kills from Becho, and Wyrzykowska iced the match on her 16
th kill off a pass from Gonçalves.
Lindsey Wilson begins its last road trip of the regular season on Saturday when the Blue Raiders travel to Dayton, Tennessee to face Bryan (Tenn.) and Reinhardt (Ga.).
