Women's Basketball Closes Out Patriots Classic With Victory Over Huntington

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.- Women's basketball defeated (RV) Huntington (Ind.) 72-56 on the second day of the Patriots Classic inside the O. Wayne Rollins Center.

Taylor Guess led the offense with a game-high 14 points, while adding five boards. Jarie Thomas, Saniyah Shelton, and Amelia Hodges finished the game in double digits with 11, 11, and 10, respectively. 

Guess got the Blue Raider offense started with an offensive rebound and put back at 8:33 to jump out 2-0. Both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net to start the game with the next bucket not dropping until 6:46 on another layup from Guess, for a 4-0 lead. Forester Addie Shank answered with a layup of her own to put Huntington on the board at 6:28. Meadow Tisdale found herself on the free throw line at 6:05, connecting on two freebies for a 6-2 LWU advantage. Tisdale's free throws sparked a 7-1 Blue Raider run to jump ahead 11-3 with 4:34 to play. Huntington answered back with a 13-6 run to end the quarter, cutting the LWU lead to 17-16. 

Huntington's Allison Price knocked down two free throws at 9:28 to give the Foresters an 18-17 advantage over Lindsey Wilson. Thomas answered back with a layup at 9:12, repossessing the lead for LWU at 19-18. Hodges found her first bucket of the game with 7:59 remaining in the half on a layup to extend the lead to 21-18. Two free throws from Forester Kyndra Sheets cut the Blue Raider lead back to one at 21-20 with 7:49 on the clock. A three from Grace Brewer at 7:19 began a 15-6 run for Lindsey Wilson that lasted til 0:47, to give them a 34-26 lead headed into the halftime locker room. 

Tisdale opened the second half scoring for the Blue Raiders, converting on an and-1 at 7:47 to increase the lead to 37-29. At 6:39 and 6:02, Guess converted on a layup assisted by Hodges, followed by a Shelton bucket, assisted by Thomas, growing the lead to 41-33. Shelton found the bottom of the net again at 4:17, extending the lead back to double digits for a 46-36 advantage. Lindsey Wilson closed the quarter on a 6-5 run, headed into the final ten minutes of action up 52-41. 

Claire Fleming found Thomas for a bucket 12 seconds into the final quarter, extending the lead to 54-41. At 8:35, Forester Liv Raby cut the lead to single digits on a layup assisted by Kyndell Jochim, trailing 54-45. Hodges answered back with a layup of her own, pushing LWU back ahead 56-45, with 8:16 remaining in regulation. Lindsey Wilson closed out the game on an 18-11 run, defeating Huntington (Ind.) 72-56. 

The Blue Raiders will be back in action on Wednesday against Georgia Gwinnett in Lawrenceville Georgia at 6 P.M. CT.
