BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The (RV) Lindsey Wilson women's volleyball team bowed out of the Mid-South Conference tournament to Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday evening at Bowling Green Arena.
Despite forcing a fourth set after falling behind 2-0, and the Blue Raiders could not outlast the Tigers in the end.
Ola Wyrzykowska had 17 kills and 16 digs for her second double-double in as many days and
Marija Raonic came alive late to finish with 14 kills. For Wyrzykowska, her efforts gives her 500 kills and 400 digs this season. She is the third different player in program history reach both in a single season and the first since Carol Siqueira in 2015.
Luiza Gonçalves turned in an all-around effort of 38 assists, 13 digs, four aces, three blocks, and a kill, while
Momo Hampton and
Layla HuYoung each ended with double-digit digs, contributing 16 and 11, respectively.
At the net, Lindsey Wilson racked up 10 blocks to the Tigers' seven.
Sofija Pjevic led the way with five.
In the first set, Campbellsville shaved off an early deficit with a 12-1 run to go ahead 16-7. The Blue Raiders scored eight of the next 10 points to cut the Tigers' lead to 18-15, with two kills from Wyrzykowska, but the Tigers had the advantage in the ensuing back-and-forth rally and held on to win the set 25-19.
The Tigers started on a 6-2 run in the second frame and maintained their cushion through the early stages. Consecutive service aces by Gonçalves helped make up a 4-0 swing by the Blue Raiders, pulling them to within two points. An
Ava Blomenberg kill and Campbellsville hitting error eventually tied the set at 18-18. However, the Tigers seized the momentum back with a 7-1 run.
Lindsey Wilson had to battle back from a 12-6 hole midway through the third set. Another Gonçalves ace and a pair of kills by Raonic started the comeback as the Blue Raiders went on a 6-1 run to cut Campbellsville's edge down to 13-12. A four-point spark with three Tiger errors knotted the score at 18-18, and this time it was Lindsey Wilson riding the energy to follow. Kills from Wyrzykowska and Pjevic sent the Blue Raiders on a 7-3 run to seal the set and extend the match.
In what proved to be the final set, Lindsey Wilson overcame a 19-14 deficit and fought off five different Campbellsville match-points before the Tigers made one stick to close the set 31-29.
The Blue Raiders will await their fait at the hands of the national selection committee, which announces the NAIA Tournament field at 4 p.m. CT on Monday, November 17.
