GAMBIER, Ohio – Junior
Dario Soria logged a school-record time of 1:52.63 in the 200 butterfly time trial to headline Lindsey Wilson men's swimming second day of the Total Performance Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College (Ohio).
Soria's performance was one of two NAIA provisional standards met in the trial as
Sergio Ybarra clocked in at 1:53.56. Soria went on to time another provisional mark in the 100 backstroke at 51.46 seconds, earning him 14
th place.
All told, the Blue Raiders ended the day with 14 national cuts.
The 400 individual medley featured most of the provisional times. Ybarra (4:00.69) and
Ethan Butler (4:06.53) place fifth and ninth, respectively, followed by
Oliver Greaves (20
th; 4:12.13),
Jose Rivas (24
th; 4:14.83), and
Adam Lamhiti (25
th; 4:14.12).
In the 100 breaststroke,
Dan Spinola got back to the wall at 55.86 seconds to place 10
th, and
Clinton Eales (14
th; 56.09), and Lamhiti (56.92) also notched top-20 finishes.
Lorenz Hof and
Akram Nejjar each posted provisional times of 1:40.37 and 1:44.93, respectively, in the 200 freestyle, and
Sirhaan Mia hit the wall at 50.84 seconds in the 100 butterfly for his lone national cut of the day.
Lindsey Wilson's two relays placed 11
th and 12
th. First, the 200 medley relay of Soria, Spinola, Mia, and
Max van Schagen swam a season-best time of 1:32.45, then, the 800 freestyle quartet of Greaves, Ybarra, Eales, and Soria finished at 7:01.09, another season-best.
Through two days and 24 events, the Blue Raiders sit in seventh place overall.
Day three of the Total Performance Invitational includes the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, 1,650 freestyle, and 400 freestyle relay, and begins at 9 a.m. CT.
