Women's Basketball Defeats Brescia 69-64

OWENSBORO, Ky.- Women's hoops defeated Brescia (Ky.) 69-64 at the Moore Center Saturday afternoon. 

Meadow Tisdale, Saniyah Shelton, and Claire Fleming scored in double figures for the Blue Raider offense with 23, 18, and 12 points, respectively. Shelton and Jarie Thomas cleaned up the glass, totaling six boards apiece. 

Fleming opened the scoring with a three at 9:21 on an assist from Tisdale to spark a 9-1 run that lasted until 7:00. Bearcat Cassidy Morris drained a three on an assist from Caroline Lucas at 6:40 for Brescia's first field goal of the night. Shelton found a cutting Tisdale in the paint for a layup at 4:05 to give the Blue Raiders their largest lead of the night at 16-6. Brescia closed the quarter out on a 4-0 run, holding the Blue Raiders scoreless the last 4:05 of the quarter to trail 16-10. 

After a defensive board, Shelton went coast-to-coast for an easy lay in at 9:28 to extend the lead to 18-10. Brescia answered back with a 7-0 run that started at 8:40 and ended at 6:27 on a jumper from Fleming to stop the bleeding and push the LWU lead to 20-17. Brescia's Kassady London connected from behind the arc for the neutralizer, assisted by Lucas, to tie the game at 20-20 with 5:53 to play before the half. Tisdale answered back with an old-fashioned three point play with an and-1 for a 23-20 lead at 5:32. At 4:41 a three from Morris ignited a 7-0 run from the Bearcats, taking a 27-23 lead with 3:14 to play. Lindsey Wilson closed the quarter on a 4-2 run, trailing 29-27 at the half.

Fleming quickly leveled the score at 29-29 out of the break, followed by a Lucas Layup and a Tisdale layup to once again even the playing field at 31-31 with 8:44 on the clock. Both teams traded buckets back and forth, trading the lead from 6:52 till 3:42 when Taylor Guess knocked down a three, assisted by Natalie Gentry to push the Blue Raiders ahead by two possessions, 42-38. Brescia's Graci Risley knocked down a three to make it a one point ballgame at 42-41 with 2:24 on the clock. Tisdale converted on a layup at 2:01 pushing LWU back up 44-41, closing out the third quarter scoring for both teams.

Guess found Shelton for an easy bucket in the paint to extend the Lindsey Wilson lead to 46-41 with 9:33 left in the ballgame. A Tisdale layup increased the lead to 56-49 with 4:16 on the clock. The Blue Raider offense kept them two possessions ahead to close out the ballgame to defeat Brescia 69-64. 

Women's basketball will be back in action on Monday to host No.15-ranked Oregon Tech at 4 P.M. CT, inside Biggers Sports Center.
