Blue Raiders Defeat Pikeville 83-53 on First Day of Campbellsville University Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- The Blue Raiders defeated Pikeville (Ky.) 83-53 on the first day of the Campbellsville University Classic. 

Saniyah Shelton led the Lindsey Wilson offense posting 21 points, six rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Meadow Tisdale posted her third double-double on the season with 16 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Taylor Guess rounded out the double-figure scoring with 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting. 

Shelton opened the scoring with six straight points to give the Blue Raiders an early 6-0 lead with 7:23 on the clock. Pikeville answered back with six points of their own to level the playing field at 6-6 with 6:08 to play in the first. A jumper from Jarie Thomas at 5:49, followed by a Taylor Guess three pointer, pushed the lead to 11-6 at 5:08. A Barnett three pointer and Emily Cox layup closed out the opening quarter with Lindsey Wilson leading 24-20. 

Both teams hit an offensive drought until Guess converted on a layup at 8:55 to extend the Blue Raider lead to 26-20. Barnett knocked down back-to-back three pointers at 5:57 and 5:29, growing the lead to 32-24 for Lindsey Wilson. With 2:23 to play before the half, Tisdale finished at the rim followed by a Tisdale steal and Shelton finish at 1:41, increasing the margin to 39-27. Amelia Hodges and Shelton both got to the rack before the half to give the Blue Raiders a 43-29 advantage headed into the locker room. 

Tisdale put up six straight points out of the half, extending the lead to 49-29 with 7:45 on the clock. Pikeville answered with a 7-2 run starting at 6:01 and ending at 4:12 after Tisdale ended the run with a free throw for a 52-36 score. Lindsey Wilson ended the third quarter on an 8-2 run to lead 60-40 headed into the final ten minutes of action. 

The Blue Raiders opened the quarter on a 9-2 run sparked by a Guess layup at 9:35 and ended with two free throws from Thomas at 6:47 for a 69-42 lead. With 4:32 on the clock, Shelton connected on a jumper on Hodges seventh assist of the night, growing the Blue Raider advantage to 73-45. With 22 seconds left, Madison Lawson found the bottom of the net on a tough and-one and connected on the free throw to push the Blue Raiders over the finish line for an 83-53 victory. 

Women's hoops will be back in action tomorrow at noon to face Virginia Lynchburg inside the Powell Athletic Center on the second day of the Campbellsville University Classic.
