Blue Raiders Overpower Dragons 92-54 on Day Two of Campbellsville University Classic

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.- Women's basketball defeated Virginia Lynchburg 92-54 on the second day of the Campbellsville University Classic. 

Taylor Guess led the offensive brigade for Lindsey Wilson posting a 14 point and 10 rebound double-double with four assists and two steals. Emma Barnett contributed 13 points on 4-of-7 shooting from behind the arc, while Jarie Thomas and Amelia Hodges posted 12 points apiece. Saniyah Shelton added eight boards and seven assists.

Lindsey Wilson started its offense with four straight points on a layup from Thomas and two free throws from Guess for an early 4-0 lead with 8:56 on the clock. Virginia Lynchburg answered back with a four point run of its own to even the game at 4-4 with 7:27 to play. A three pointer at 4:42 by Barnett and a layup from Natalie Gentry at 1:39 pushed the Blue Raider advantage to 15-7. With 0:37 on the clock, Emily Cox made her way to the rim, giving Lindsey Wilson a 20-11 lead headed into the second quarter. 

Guess opened up the quarter with a layup at 9:22 to extend the lead to double-figures at 22-11. At 7:38, Dragon Lovely Link knocked down a three to bring the contest back to a single-digit game for a 25-16 score. With 6:52 on the clock, Thomas knocked down a free throw to spark a 10-2 Blue Raider run that lasted until 1:51 for a 35-18 LWU lead. With 0:44 on the clock, Amelia Hodges pulled an offensive rebound and laid it back in to give Lindsey Wilson a 39-18 edge headed into the locker room. 

To open the third quarter, Guess found Hodges at the top of the arc for a three at 9:39 to spark a 7-0 run that lasted until 8:38, extending the lead to 46-18. With 7:14 on the clock Shelton found her first bucket of the game, sparking a 10-0 run that lasted till 4:54, growing the lead to 56-23. Isabel Garcia went to the free throw line at 2:46 after grabbing an offensive rebound, knocking down both, then immediately taking two technical free throws to grow the lead to 61-29. Landree Moons found the bottom of the net on a three assisted by Garcia followed by two Grace Brewer free throws to give Lindsey Wilson a 68-33 advantage headed into the final ten minutes of action. 

Shelton grabbed a defensive board and swung it to Thomas who knocked down a three with 9:33 to play, growing the Blue Raider lead to 71-35. Gentry got a long miss off the back of the rim and pulled it out, connecting on a mid-range pull-up at 5:23 for a 80-43 LWU advantage. At 3:07 Madison Lawson got to the rack followed by a three pointer from Rae Ellen Jones at 2:51 and a free throw from Kennedy Lawson at 0:24 to push the Blue Raiders to a 92-54 victory. 

Women's hoops will be back in action on December 5, to face Indiana University East at 6 P.M. CT in Biggers Sports Center.
