PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Lindsey Wilson women's soccer team fell 3-0 to sixth-seeded Missouri Valley on Tuesday night in the Round of 16 at the NAIA National Championship on Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Field.
The Blue Raiders (10-6-2) and Vikings (18-0-4) each finished with 16 total shots, but Missouri Valley placed seven on goal compared to four for Lindsey Wilson. Both goalkeepers tallied four saves, while Lindsey Wilson held a 7-4 edge in corner kicks. Each side committed eight fouls in a physical, hard-fought match.
Lindsey Wilson came out strong in the opening minutes as
Efua Asabel and
Ashiat Naluggwa both sent early shots just wide. Missouri Valley broke through in the eighth minute when Marlene Flores scored off a rebound from a free kick. The Vikings doubled their lead in the 40th minute as Viktoria Einsbor knocked in a loose ball inside the box.
The Blue Raiders nearly cut into the deficit before halftime when Naluggwa's shot hit the post, but Missouri Valley carried a 2-0 advantage into the break. The Vikings added a third goal in the 61st minute when Judit Ferre scored on a low drive from outside the box.
Goalkeeper
Demi Serman made four saves for Lindsey Wilson, while the Blue Raiders created several second-half chances through Naluggwa,
Amanda Parreiras, and
Sharon Nadunga but couldn't find the back of the net.
