COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team rolled past Union Commonwealth (Ky.) 91-74 on Saturday afternoon inside Biggers Sports Center.
Kenyata Carbon led the Blue Raiders with 20 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range.
Mihail Gavazov added 16 points,
Latrell Kyles finished with 14 and a team-high eight assists,
DJ Gordon scored 13, and
Julian Cunningham chipped in 12.
Gavazov opened the scoring with a jumper to give Lindsey Wilson the early lead. The Blue Raiders quickly found their rhythm from deep as Cunningham and Kyles each connected from beyond the arc to push the score to 16-8 midway through the first half. The defense forced multiple turnovers, and Carbon added a pair of layups to extend the margin. Kyles stayed hot with another three-pointer to make it 29-14 late in the period, and baskets from Gordon and Kyles in the final minute sent Lindsey Wilson into halftime with a 38-25 advantage.
The second half brought more of the same as the Blue Raiders continued to shoot lights out from three. Carbon knocked down an early triple, followed by two from Gavazov to keep the lead in double figures. Dunn tried to rally Union Commonwealth (Ky.) with several threes of his own, but Lindsey Wilson answered every run. Carbon, Gordon, and Kyles each hit from long range as the Blue Raiders built their largest lead of 19 points with just over seven minutes to play.
Lindsey Wilson finished the afternoon with a season-high 18 made three-pointers, just one shy of tying the program's single-game record. The Blue Raiders shot 59.6 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc while getting 36 points from the bench to seal the win.
The victory moves Lindsey Wilson to 9-4 on the season. The Blue Raiders return to action Saturday, January 3, when they host Washington Adventist (Md.) at 6:30 p.m. CT inside Biggers Sports Center.
