Women's Basketball Falls To No. 7 Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) On Senior Day

COLUMBIA, Ky.- Women's basketball falls to No. 7 Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) 71-47 in Biggers Sports Center Saturday on Senior Day

Taylor Guess tallied a team-high 11 points on 9-of-10 shooting from the free throw line, alongside three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Saniyah Shelton was the other Blue Raider with double-figures tacking on 10 points, three rebounds, one assist, and a steal.

Shelton found Jarie Thomas in the short corner 18 seconds into the game giving the Blue Raiders a quick 2-0 lead. The Lady Lions answered back with a 12-0 run that lasted 6:05 giving them a 12-2 advantage. A free throw from Shelton with 3:36 on the clock ended the Blue Raiders 6:24 drought cutting the lead down to 12-3. Lindsey Wilson ended the first ten minutes of action, trailing 17-9 at the quarter. 

Claire Fleming found Shelton wide open on the wing for a three at 9:02 followed by a Fleming three at 8:11 assisted by Guess. Fleming knocked down another jumper at 7:40 to cut the FHU lead down to 21-17. Freed-Hardeman closed the quarter on a 12-8 run, creating a 33-25 deficit for the Blue Raiders headed into the half. 

FHU threw together a 7-0 run to start the third quarter holding the Blue Raiders scoreless until Guess converted on a contested layup at 6:00, making the Lady Lions lead 40-27. Freed-Hardeman ended the quarter on a 12-9 run, outscoring the Blue Raiders 19-11 in the third, extending their lead to 52-36. 

The Blue Raiders continued to struggle on the defensive end of the floor, giving up 19 fourth-quarter points while only scoring 11 of their own. 

The Lady Lions shot 59.2 percent from the floor, and 41.7 from behind the arc while holding the Blue Raiders to 26.5 percent from the floor and 21.1 from behind the arc. 

Women's basketball will be back in action on the road Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. CST to take on the No. 4 Tigers of Campbellsville (Ky.) in Powell Athletic Center.
