Thomas Scores Career-High 20 Points In Win Over Ohio Christian

COLUMBIA, Ky.- Women's basketball improved to 14-9 on the season after beating the Trailblazers of Ohio Christian University 85-58. 


Lindsey Wilson bested multiple season averages tonight including a season-high 12 blocks with six different Blue Raiders acquiring at least one. Jarie Thomas led the offensive brigade posting a career-high 20 points on 9-of-11 shooting, nine rebounds, and two blocks. Taylor Guess contributed 19 points while adding five assists, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Saniyah Shelton rounded out the double digit scoring tracking on 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a block. 


Natalie Gentry started the offense finding Thomas for a easy lay in at 9:28. OCU's Ashley DeWeese answered back with a three quickly followed by a Shelton layup at 8:06 to put Lindsey Wilson up 4-3. With 5:00 on the clock, the Blue Raiders started to pull away on a bucket from Shelton and a layup by Claire Fleming to give them a 11-6 advantage. At 2:11, Grace Brewer came off the bench knocking down a three pointer, followed by a lay in by Guess with 0:37 to go, giving Lindsey Wilson a 20-10 advantage after the first ten minutes of action. 


Thomas once again started the scoring for the Blue Raiders at 9:10 converting on a touch layup putting Lindsey Wilson up 22-12. After a missed Trailblazer three, Brewer grabbed the defensive board and hit Guess in transition enabling her to make a move and knock down a step back three. Fleming converted on two made free throws after a hard foul in the lane, followed by a Guess layup and Shelton jumper to contribute to a 13-0 run for the Blue Raiders as they lead 33-12 with 5:42 to play in the first half. Lindsey Wilson closed out the half on a 14-7 run giving them a 47-19 edge headed into halftime. 


Lindsey Wilson picked up the second half right where they left, going on a 7-0 run that lasted a 1:47 putting the Blue Raiders up 54-19. With 2:43 in the third, Gracie Borders lays in an easy bucket after Guess got a steal on the other end. Guess, Thomas, and Janiya Davis would go on to convert on buckets to put LWC up 77-39 headed into the final ten minutes of action. 


Trailblazer Emma Koons knocked down a jumper with 9:45 on the clock to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 71-41. Shelton was able to find Thomas at 6:57 followed by a one-foot jumper by Brewer to put the Blue Raiders up 77-47 with 5:45 to play. Lindsey Wilson would go on to win 85-58. 


Women's basketball will be back in action on Saturday taking on the No. 7 Tigers of Georgetown at 12 p.m. CST in the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
