GEORGETOWN, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team outscored No. 7 Georgetown (Ky.) 28-16 in the fourth quarter to pull off the 81-76 upset Saturday at Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.
This marks the first victory over a top-10 team since February of 2022 when the Blue Raiders upset No. 3 Thomas More 53-52 in the Quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
Taylor Guess scored a game-high 24 points on 7-of-15 shooting while going 9-of-12 from the charity stripe. Guess also added nine rebounds and a game-high five assists.
Claire Fleming added a career-high 23 points while shooting 7-of-12 from the field and converting on all nine of her free-throw attempts.
Saniyah Shelton scored 11 points while grabbing nine rebounds while
Grace Brewer added 10 points from off the bench.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Blue Raiders trailed 60-53. Lindsey Wilson opened the quarter on a 6-0 run trimming the Tigers lead to 60-59 with 8:16 to play. Georgetown then scored the next three points making it a 63-59 game with 7:37 remaining. The two teams traded points as Georgetown took a 68-64 lead with 4:51 to play. Lindsey Wilson went on a 10-0 run that lasted 3:46 to take a 74-68 with just 1:05 left in the game. During the run, the Blue Raiders connected of 5-of-6 attempts from the charity stripe.
Georgetown cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to 74-70 with 54 second left after converting on a pair of free throws. The Blue Raiders closed out the game converting on 7-of-10 attempts from the free throw line to give Lindsey Wilson the 81-76 victory.
The Blue Raiders opened the game scoring seven of the first 10 points propelled by a 5-0 run. Georgetown then scored four of the next six points to make it a 9-7 game with 6:37 left in the quarter. Lindsey Wilson closed out the first quarter on an 11-4 run to lead 20-11 after the first 10 minutes. The Blue Raiders shot 53.3 percent from the field in the first quarter and limited Georgetown to just 2-of-18 shooting (11.1 percent).
Lindsey Wilson opened the second quarter on a 7-2 run with four points from Guess and a three from Brewer to increase the lead to 27-13. The Blue Raiders pushed their lead to 31-18 with 6:20 to play in the half. Georgetown then went on an 8-0 run that lasted 1:58 trimming the Lindsey Wilson advantage to 31-26 with 4:22 left in the second quarter. The two teams exchanged points for the rest of the half as Lindsey Wilson took a 42-37 lead into the locker room after Fleming scored at the buzzer.
Guess increased the Blue Raider lead to 44-37 early in the third quarter before Georgetown rattled off an 11-0 run that lasted 2:27 to take a 48-44 lead with 6:46 to play in the quarter. Following a Shelton basket that made it 48-46, the Tigers put together a 10-2 run increasing their lead to 58-48 with 2:40 left in the third. Lindsey Wilson scored five of the quarter's final seven points as they went into the fourth quarter trailing 60-53.
The Blue Raiders return to action on Thursday hosting No. 10 Cumberlands (Ky.) at 5:30 p.m. CT at Biggers Sports Center.
