No. 3 Women’s Tennis Dominates Campbellsville in Mid-South Conference Opener

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team opened Mid-South Conference play with a commanding 6-1 victory over Campbellsville on Saturday afternoon at Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders (9-2, 1-0 MSC) swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches to secure their seventh straight victory.

Lindsey Wilson started strong in doubles, taking all three courts. The No. 8-ranked pair of Anastasiia Vorobiova and Heyka Rodriguez defeated Andrea Ovejero and Juanita Quintero 6-1 at No. 1. Mayra Gisone and No. 3-ranked Anastasiia Ivanchenko clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Clara Asprella and Oriana Espinoza at No. 2. On court three, Aina Domingo Bernabeu and No. 22-ranked Mariangeles Mateu completed the sweep with a 6-0 victory, giving the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead.

In singles, Mateu made quick work of Ovejero at No. 3, winning 6-0, 6-0 to extend the lead to 2-0. Vorobiova, ranked No. 15 nationally, followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Asprella at No. 2.

No. 17-ranked Domingo Bernabeu secured the team victory at No. 1 with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Espinoza, pushing the lead to 4-0.

The Blue Raiders continued to roll as Ivanchenko swept Quintero 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4, and Gisone followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Valentina Curli at No. 5.

Campbellsville picked up its only point of the match at No. 6, where Jimena Palomo edged Rodriguez 6-4, 7-5 in a tightly contested battle.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson improves to 37-2 all-time against Campbellsville.

The Blue Raiders return to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday, March 29, when they travel to Lebanon, Tenn., to face Cumberland (Tenn.).
