LIMA, Ohio – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis team earned a statement 4-1 victory over No. 5-ranked Northwestern Ohio on Tuesday morning at the Racer Invitational.
Marcal Miret clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a hard-fought win at No. 6 singles.
Lindsey Wilson (3-3) secured the early advantage by taking two of the three doubles matches. German Delcanto and Lucas Marques dominated at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 victory, but UNOH (7-4) responded with a 7-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Hans Schubert and Santiago Passoni delivered under pressure at No. 1 doubles, winning 7-5 to secure the doubles point for the Blue Raiders.
In singles action, No. 11-ranked Lucas Perez claimed UNOH's lone point of the match with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Jaume Barcelo at No. 3 singles. Lindsey Wilson quickly responded as Marques took a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles, followed by No. 18-ranked Passoni's 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 4 singles to give the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead. Miret then sealed the match at No. 6 singles, battling to a 7-6(2), 6-2 win over Nils Messin.
The remaining singles matches at No. 1 and No. 2 were left unfinished. Schubert trailed 3-6, 5-4 at No. 1, while Delcanto, facing No. 7-ranked Francisco Perez, won the first set 7-6 before leading 1-0 in the second when play was halted.
Lindsey Wilson continues play at the Racer Invitational on Wednesday, taking on No. 9-ranked Holy Cross (Ind.).
