COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson men's tennis dominated in its home opener, securing a 7-0 sweep over St. Thomas (Fla.) on Sunday evening at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders (5-3) controlled the match from start to finish, winning all three doubles contests before sweeping singles play without dropping a set.
Doubles action saw Lindsey Wilson claim the first point after securing victories across all three courts. Lucas Marques and German Delcanto struck first at No. 3 doubles with a 6-3 win over Giacomo Nava and Jan Gewaltig. The No. 1 duo of Hans Schubert and Santiago Passoni followed with a 6-2 triumph against Fabrizio Moreno and Josh Cronje. Marcal Miret and Jaume Barcelo then completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 victory at No. 2 over Arthur Bugeaud and Leon Emich, giving Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead.
In singles, No. 18-ranked Passoni extended the lead to 2-0 with a commanding 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 3 over Bugeaud. Schubert quickly followed at No. 1, blanking William Rosencrantz in the second set to secure a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Barcelo made it 4-0 and clinched the match for the Blue Raiders with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Moreno at No. 2.
The remaining matches continued despite the clinch. Miret delivered a flawless opening set en route to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 4 over Emich. Marques held off Nava 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5, while Aldo Randazzo closed the sweep with a hard-fought 6-3, 6-4 victory over Gewaltig at No. 6.
The Blue Raiders will be back in action this Wednesday March 9 at 1 p.m. C.T. against No. 20 Oakland City (Ind.) at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
