Game Two Comeback Comes up Short as Softball Splits with No. 25 Campbellsville

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team gave "Highway 55" rival and 25th-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) a fight on Saturday afternoon but fell short in game two in earn a split.

Katie Lorenz and Nora Epley each laid down three hits for the Blue Raiders, with all but one going for extra bases. The pair also drove in two runs, apiece.

Game One | Lindsey Wilson 3, No. 25 Campbellsville (Ky.) 1

The first of Saturday's twinbill showcased talented pitching from both sides, as each team was limited to three hits on offense. An error-riddled third inning by the hosts, however, proved beneficial for the visitors.

Lorenz led-off the third frame with a double to left-center field, then Brooklynn Becker and Epley dropped back-to-back bunts that were both mishandled by the Tigers' defense. The consecutive errors plated Lorenz and Becker to push Lindsey Wilson ahead 2-0.

Campbellsville snatched one run back in the following half-inning to cut the Blue Raiders' lead in half.

Two innings later, Becker and Epley were heard from, again, this time with their own doubles on back-to-back hits to restore Lindsey Wilson's two-run advantage.

Behind the efforts of Kayden Murray and the Blue Raider defense, the Tigers were held hitless in six of the game's seven innings.

Murray closed her eighth complete-game of the year with seven strikeouts, three hits, and one earned run

Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 6, No. 25 Campbellsville (Ky.) 7

Lindsey Wilson battled back from an early deficit in game two and eventually took a one-run lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. Unfortunately, Campbellsville flexed its big bats in the end to seal a win.

An infield groundout by Sam Hartman to score Epley opened the scoring in the top half of the first frame, but the Tigers charged back with a four-spot in their first plate appearance to create a three-run cushion.

From there, it was up to the Blue Raiders to climb back one run at a time. In the third, Lorenz tripled to deep center field, then scored soon after on an RBI-single by Epley to left field.

Campbellsville added a fifth run in the home half of the third inning, followed by a RBI-double from Olivia Franceschi in the fourth to bring the margin back down to two runs.

After a series of scoreless innings, Lorenz continued her strong day in the sixth when she doubled home Natalie Wandrie and McKenna Ingram to tie the game at 5-5.

The late push carried into the seventh as Rodgers lined a single up the middle to drive in Atavya Fowler, giving the one-run edge back to Lindsey Wilson.

The Tigers, however, found the offense they needed in the bottom leg of the final inning, plating two runs to end the game.

Hallie Roberts pitched five innings of relief for the Blue Raiders. The freshman allowed three earned runs on five hits and recorded six strikeouts.

Lindsey Wilson and Campbellsville will meet at noon CST on Sunday, April 13 to decide the series with a single seven-inning contest.
