COLUMBIA, Ky. – Lindsey Wilson student-athlete
Maaike Broersma culminated a decorated collegiate tenure by garnering one of the nation's most distinguished academic accolades, earning College Sports Communicators First Team Academic All-America laurels in the organization's release Tuesday.
CSC seeks to honor and celebrate student-athletes who represent the highest caliber of academic and athletic achievement through the annual Academic All-District and Academic All-America programs. The Blue Raiders placed four student-athletes on the Academic All-District Team earlier this month.
Broersma, a graduate senior from Bodegraven, Netherlands, collects Academic All-America Team honors for the second time in her career after being recognized in the 2023-24 season. She is one of 10 women from the NAIA to be named to this distinction and one of three representing the Mid-South Conference.
Throughout her coursework in pursuit of her master's degree, Broersma amassed a cumulative grade-point average of 3.82. She was tabbed with NAIA Scholar-Athlete status for the fourth time in her career and secured her third Academic All-Mid-South Conference honor in February and was selected the Lindsey Wilson College Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight year on April 15.
Competitively, Broersma won four gold medals at the NAIA Swimming and Diving National Championships in March, including in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard backstroke, and as a member of the 200-yard freestyle relay. She also clinched All-American finishes with four additional relays, claimed six gold medals at the Mid-South championships in February, and was voted the NAIA women's Swimmer of the Year for the second consecutive season at the conclusion of the national championships.
Broersma's efforts helped the Blue Raider women's swimming team to a third-place finish at nationals, its best performance in the program's history.
Seven of the ten members of the Academic All-America NAIA women's swimming and diving teams boast a perfect 4.00 GPA. The ten members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.92.
